Age Problem 3

1. Juans age is now two third of what it will be 20 years from now. How old is he now?

Solution:

Let x be his age now
x+20 be his age 20 years from now

condition:

Juans age now is two third his age 20 years from now. so we get

so getting x we get

x = 40

in here Juans' age then is 40 years old

Age Problem 2

Juan is trice as old as his brother Pedro. The sum of their ages is 36. How old are they hten?

Solution:

Let x be the age of the younger Pedro
y be the age of Juan

condition:

Juan is trice as old as Pedro so
y= 3x

sum of their ages is 36
x+y= 36

but y=3x
so:

x+3x=36

x= 9..................... this is the age of the younger Pedro

y=3x= 3(9)= 27........ the age of Juan

Age Problem 1

Juan is six years older thatn Pedro. Three years hence, Pedros' age will be two third of Juans' age. Determine their ages now.

Solution:
let x be the age of Pedro
y be the age of Juan

Condition:

Juan is 6 years older than Pedro
so:
y= 6+x

Three years hence, Pedros' age will be two third of Juans' age

getting x we get x= 9

y= 6+x= 6+9= 15

Juan's age= 15
Pedro's age= 9

Geometry Problem 2

What is the dimension of a cube if its total volume is 125 cubic meters.

Solution:

Volume= side x side x side
or equal to

solving x we get x= 5 meters

Geometry Problem 1

Princess Star and Superferry started to travel at the same time. The direction of Princess star is northward and eastward for superferry. After two hours, the distance traveled by superferry is twice as that of princess star. Find the distance traveled by each of them if the distance between them is 84 kilometers.

by Pythagorean theorem

let a= x
b= 2x
c=84 km

solving x, we get x=37.566 km
2x= 75.132 km

Princess Star traveled 37.566 km and Superferry traveled 75.132 km
